How It Works

At this point the first questions you should be asking are:

 1. What does this all involve?

 2.
So what kind of people give away expensive goods like these?

 3.
How is this possible?

These were certainly the first things I was asking myself, and in short the answers are:

 1.
This involves signing up (totally free) to a referral site (see 'The Guide') and 'test driving' the services or products from the companies listed. This can be absolutely free depending on which company's service or product you choose to test. Then simply referring others to do exactly the same, this can be friends, family, workmates, fellow students or anyone else as long as they do not share the same address or computer IP address as yourself.

S T U D E N T S ! ! !   -   M a n y   o f   u s   a r e   i n   h a l l s   o f   r e s i d e n c e

r o o m   t o   r o o m .   T h e r e f o r e   a l l   y o u   n e e d   t o   d o   o n

s i g n i n g   u p   i s   u s e   y o u r   H O M E   A D D R E S S .

Those of you in houses will not be able to join if someone else in your house has. Unless you each have your own ISP (i.e. not sharing an internet connection.)

 2.
The people that send you your free gifts are the advertising referral sites who can do this because they receive a referral 'fee' (around £20) from the company that you choose to test a service/product with via their site.

OK so for example: You sign up to Freebie website and complete an offer, and refer 9 friends to do the same (to get a Wii)

Freebie site is paid by sponsors (the companies you complete offers with - Lovefilm, Gala Bingo, Coral etc.), around £20 for each completion.

So thats: 10 x £20 = £200

More than enough to get you your Wii, whilst the Freebie site still takes in profit. Simple!

 3. As part touched upon in the previous answer, this is all possible because companies are willing to pay advertising referral sites to get customers to try their service/product. Its actually a form of advertising and marketing for these companies, just like TV ads, billboards and leaflets through your front door, they are trying to attract potential new customers.

The list of companies who participate in this relatively new form of marketing include reputable house-hold names such as BT, British Gas, Virgin Media, American Express, Coral and Carphone Warehouse just to name but a few.

This new-concept marketing has also been recognised and shown in economic reports on TV from BBC Newsnight (see next page) to the CNN news service, so don't just take my word for it, check out the 'as seen on TV section'.
